Vol 4: Tips for the Holiday Season

The holiday weekend is upon us — are you and your four legged friends ready? The holidays can be overwhelming for our furry companions, but they don’t have to be!

Here are a few tips that you can utilize to support your pet during the holiday season and make the holidays more enjoyable for everyone!

- A Room of Their Own: Give your pet their own quiet space to retreat to - complete with fresh water and a place to snuggle. Shy pups (and cats) might want to hide out away from the hubbub.

- Selecting Special Treats: Looking to stuff your pet's stockings? Stick with goodies made just for them. Chew toys, Kongs (stuffed with a little Waggies), healthy foods or treats (our peanut butter bites are a popular choice!) are all great options.

- That Holiday Glow: Don't leave lighted candles unattended. Pets may burn themselves or cause a fire if they knock candles over. Be sure to use secure holders, placed on a stable surface. And if you leave the room, put the candle out!

- Know Before you Go: If your holiday festivities involve travelling to the houses of friends or family, be sure to talk with your hosts about what their holiday plans look like and how your dog can and/or can’t be incorporated. Knowing your host’s rules and expectations for dogs ahead of time — for example, if dogs are allowed on furniture — can help everyone have a positive and successful experience.

- Oh, Christmas Tree: Securely anchor your Christmas tree so it doesn't tip and fall causing possible injury to your pet (or damage to sentimental ornaments!)

- Tinsel-less Town: Kitties love this sparkly, light-catching "toy" that's easy to bat around and carry in their mouths. But a nibble can lead to a swallow, which can cause bigger problems.

- Leave the Leftovers: Fatty, spicy and no-no human foods, as well as bones, should not be fed to your furry friends. Why note treat them to their own special meals...we're sure to have something they'd love (check here!
